Water Structure

Water structure research examines the molecular organization and dynamic hydrogen-bonding network of water. As one of the most anomalous and life-essential substances, water exhibits unusual physical and chemical behaviors that influence biological processes, solvation chemistry, electrochemistry, and environmental interactions. Understanding its structure at different scales is critical for fields from biochemistry to nanotechnology.

Typical works in this area include:

  • Spectroscopic studies of hydrogen bonding and molecular interactions in water
  • Exploring water dynamics at interfaces, surfaces, and confined environments
  • Investigating solvation of ions, molecules, and biomolecules
  • Modeling structural anomalies and temperature/pressure-dependent behavior
  • Studying hydration shells and their influence on chemical reactivity
