Photocatalysis

Photocatalysis investigates chemical transformations driven by light-activated catalysts, enabling solar-to-chemical energy conversion. By using semiconductors, metal–organic frameworks, or plasmonic nanostructures, photocatalytic systems harness photons to generate charge carriers that initiate redox reactions. This field plays a critical role in sustainable chemistry, environmental remediation, and renewable energy.

Typical works in this area include:

  • Photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants and wastewater purification
  • Hydrogen generation via water splitting under visible-light irradiation
  • CO₂ reduction to fuels using semiconductor photocatalysts
  • Designing doped or composite photocatalysts with enhanced light absorption
  • Mechanistic studies on charge separation and surface reaction pathways
