Polymers Chemistry

Polymer chemistry is the study of the synthesis, characterization, and modification of macromolecules. Polymers form the backbone of modern materials science, ranging from plastics and elastomers to biomaterials and stimuli-responsive “smart polymers.” Research explores how polymer architecture, monomer selection, and polymerization techniques influence material properties and performance.

Typical works in this area include:

  • Synthesis of biodegradable polymers for biomedical and environmental applications
  • Development of conductive and electroactive polymers for electronics
  • Creating stimuli-responsive polymers that react to heat, light, or pH
  • Polymer blends and composites for enhanced mechanical or thermal properties
  • Kinetic and mechanistic studies of polymerization processes
